ANDRITZ wins contract for Khangtang small hydro project in India

ANDRITZ has been awarded a contract by Khangtang Hydro Power Private Limited, Hyderabad, to supply equipment for the 7.5MW Khangtang Small Hydro Power Project.

The Khangtang Hydroelectric Project will be a run-of-river scheme, located in Seru village, Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. The powerhouse will contain three turbine-generator units each with a capacity of 2.5MW.

According to a social media post by ANDRITZ, the contract covers design, manufacture, testing, supply, installation and commissioning of electromechanical equipment for the Khangtang Small Hydro Power Project. The stepped-up generation will be taken by single circuit 33-kV transmission line to the Arunachal Pradesh state grid.

Khangtang Hydro Power is a special purpose vehicle of Tavasya Venture Partners Private Limited. The customer is an experienced independent power producer, having two plants in operation in South and North India, ANDRITZ said.

The project was included in Arunachal Pradesh’s Power Master Plan (2006-2022), released in 2006, on the list of on going hydroelectric projects. At that time, it was anticipated to be commissioned in 2008. It is not clear what caused the long delay in its completion.
