Spanish engineering company Saitec Offshore Technologies has awarded Maersk Supply Service the contract for the mooring system installation of the Saitec Offshore DemoSATH floating wind project.
The DemoSATH project will deploy a prototype 2MW turbine offshore Bilbao, an industrial port city in northern Spain. According to Saitec, it will be the first floating turbine connected to the Spanish grid.

Olivier Trouvé, Head of Integrated Solutions at Maersk Supply Service, said: “This is a significant contract for Maersk Supply Service, as floating wind is a cornerstone of our green strategy and transition to offshore renewables. We are pleased to be able to provide our expertise for this project and look forward to delivering a safe and efficient installation for our client.”
Maersk’s installation will be based on what they refer to as a “concrete platform concept with a plug-and-play Single Point Mooring”, an anchoring system that allows for easy connection and O&M.
The platform can rotate freely around this single point, reducing the impact on the platform and lowering the cost of mooring. It also helps the yaw control of the turbine to orientate the rotor plane against the wind, states Maersk.
The project team is currently being assembled to prepare for installation in Q2 2022.
